Dr. Suess Visits Little Rock, AR

Friday, March 18th, 2011

Most of us grew up reading the amazing stories of a rhyming Dr Suess.  My favorite was always GREEN EGGS AND HAM.

I could never get enough books to keep me busy.  Well, right now Dr. Suess is in Little Rock at the Clinton Library in a very special way.  His art and times are on display.  Most of us were never aware of the wonderful political satire of Theodor Seuss Geisel.  The genius of his art makes it timeless.  Stay ten minutes away in a wonderfully quiet neighborhood,  and don’t miss the wonderful exhibit, here until May 22, 2011

Temperatures are rising fast in Little Rock, AR, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing to do.  Museums abound in Little Rock.  The Arkansas Arts Center in historic MacArthur Park hosts elegant art galleries that showcase exhibitions from the AAC’s acclaimed collection of unique works.

If history is more your thing, start at Curran Hall, Little Rock’s visitors center.  Built in 1842 by Col. Ebenezer Walters, Curran Hall is a great place to begin your adventure.   The Arkansas History Commission serves as the official State Archives.  Historic Arkansas Museum celebrates Arkansas’s culturaland material heritage with six galleries of art and artifacts.   Central High School National Historic Site highlights the battleground in the struggle for civil rights.  The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center is dedicated to the story of African American life and business in Arkansas.

Military buffs will find the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History a great way to start their adventure.  The Arsenal Building is one of Little Rock’s oldest surviving structures, built in 1840 to protect Arkansans from Indian attack.  The Arkansas National Guard Museum, in North Little Rock , tells the story of the Arkansas Nation Guard from 1804 to today.

The Museum of Discovery keeps the smallest guests to Arkansas busy with hands-on, interactive exhibits.

Fans of Bill Clinton will find a visit to the William J Clinton Presidential Library very satisfying.  The old State House where he announced his canadacy for president has wonderful exhibits on Arkansas.

Robinwood  Bed and Breakfast is in the heart of all of these.   Come and let us help you discover Little Rock.

"Read My Pins" comes to Town

Madeleine Albright was best known as the United States’s first female Secretary of State for President Bill Clinton.  Her tough stance on world issues was often represented by the broaches she chose to wear to events.  Her choice to let her jewelry speak for her was recognized my the world leaders of her time.  Many of the broaches on display were given to her by visiting dignitaries in reference to current events.

The display will open at the Presidential Library on February 15, 2010.  Our Bed and Breakfast is less than 10 minutes from the Clinton Library.

New Year's in Little Rock

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Do something new and different this New Year’s Eve: grab your sweetie and head to our Little Rock lodging for a romantic night together. Whether this is your first New Year’s Eve together, or your fiftieth, you can make it special. We are beginning a new decade, after all, and that seems to call for extraordinary measures. Make the arrival of 2010 something you will both remember for the rest of your lives.

Our Little Rock lodging is located in the Quapaw Quarter – nine square miles of historic area in the heart of the city. You can pass a memorable – and romantic – stay here by doing nothing other than strolling the oak-lined streets hand-in-hand, admiring the rich historic architecture.

There are many excellent restaurants, cafes and bars in the Quapaw Quarter; ask us some of our favorites, or just keep walking until you happen upon a place that strikes your fancy.

The River Market District, also quite close, is another good place to find good food. It may also be the best spot for a wide selection of live music.

You may choose to spend New Year’s Eve out on the town, or you may choose to spend it together at the inn. What is important is that you have decided to take this time to be together, and to celebrate one another as you welcome 2010.

Happy New Year!
